Brad is working overnight tonight so today he was home sleeping when he got a call that Emma had jumped the fence (AGAIN!). He chased her for 1.5 hours (so he says) and then he gave up and went back to bed knowing that she would come home. She did. But she was out for like 5 hours. Meanwhile I am at work...worried about her!
This fence jumping is a recent talent of hers. She doesn't do it EVERY time we let her outside, but often enough. We used to leave her outside during the day but the neighbors got sick of chasing her so she now stays inside and is only allowed outside when we are home. She is 7 years old. I thought dogs were supposed to get better with age, not naughtier!
This all started when WE GOT DREW. I think she is wanting some much needed attention. I play and pet her after Drew goes to bed but that is not enough. I love her SO much and wish she could just understand me that she has to STOP jumping the fence. Brad is REALLY close to finding a good home for her and it just tare's my heart out. I mean just look at her. How can you not love her.

So all this being said I am looking for solutions. I searched the Internet and found this harness that I am sure she will hate, but if it keeps her from jumping the fence she will just have to deal with it.
The website says "Problem jumpers train themselves by restricting the flexing of the rear legs. The dog will work against the restraint and will soon learn to stay in its own yard. With over 5 feet of adjustable nylon, one size fits all. The no jump dog harness is sewn with heavy duty box stitching at all points of the restraint for added strength. Three safety catches and four clips all rust proof allow you to make a comfortable, secure adjustment."
So I am hoping this will work!!
My other option is one of those wireless Dog fences, but they are like $300 so we are going to try Option 1 first. Brad's option would be to find a home for her, but I am not ready to do that yet. Her being naughty is not a good enough reason for me to find her a new home. He also says that we can't give her enough attention with work and drew. I think we just need to re-adjust our attitude towards her and just take 10 minutes when we get home and give her some love. I am open to any suggestions and ideas. Leave a comment and let me know or shoot me an email.

Poor Emma...I understand how you feel. Our cat cannot jump fences but she has become increasingly naughty ever since the second kiddo came home. She's 7 too...we are saying that when she is gone, we are done with pets. :( Hope it all works out, Emma is a sweet and beautiful dog!
